Summer Crafting

Do you knit or crochet during the summer months? Do you weave or spin? What types of projects do you work on?

I was at my sisters this past Wednesday, and she is an avid quilter. She makes quilts that win awards. She actually has blue ribbons!!! When we get together, we usually go up to her sewing room and she forces me to work on a quilt that I’ve probably been working on for several years. Thats not a joke. I have a quilt that I have been working on for years, and it may never get finished. I’m not really a sewer/quilter, but we work together and its fun spending time together. Well, my sister is a mom to a very active 7-year-old boy. And their pool is open. So, this past Wednesday, we sat by the pool. She was working on “hand work” sewing, and I was, of course, knitting. And The 7-year-old was happily swimming and splashing us.

I am happy that my craft is portable, and that I can take it anywhere. My car usually has three or four wips so I never have to think about bringing a project wherever I go. But I do notice a change in my projects for the summer.

Summer projects are lightweight, small, and portable. Socks, hats, amigurumi toys, etc. Not that I haven’t been known to start a wool sweater in the summer, or the occasional afghan.

This is a stacking toy octopus for my great nephew to be. Each body part is a ring that stacks over a crochet tube that is attached to the tentacles. I love how it turned out. The pattern is free from Hobbi. I used cotton yarn from my stash of cottons. Come check out our cotton yarns and whip up a few ocean creatures for your favorite little one, or a few summer wash clothes.

It’s all about summer fun for me.

Happy crafting!

And, yes, I’m still organizing my stash. Someday I hope to share pictures of my organized stuff.
