I’m sure you’ve noticed that styles of clothes, shoes, hair styles and knitting/crocheting patterns come in and out of fashion. Granny squares have made a big comeback. They are not the granny squares our “grannies” made. The yarn is nicer, the colors are nicer, and the overall style of clothing, accessories, or blankets you can make using them is more up to date.
At knitting guild this week (Nashoba Valley Knitting Guild), an old friend who has moved to a small apartment from a large house sent in bags of knitting/crocheting patterns. They dated back to the 80’s and they were fun to look at. We enjoyed discussing which patterns we remembered, which we had made, discontinued yarns, and who the models were made to look like. Princess Dianna was a big hit back then.
I ended up taking a baby pattern from Leisure Arts, Leaflet 288, which cost a whopping $1.75 back in the day. The designs are by Anne Raun Ough. The patterns are fisherman crochet. And since I’m really into crochet right now, I thought I would give it a try. Also, found out that my niece is expecting a baby in September (baby #8 in my life this year), and I must admit, I’ve knit five Macaroon baby sweaters, and I think I need a change of pattern for the other babies.
A fun crochet project I’m working on right now is a baby cannoli bunting. My niece asked if I could try to make one for her baby. So, I’m inventing it as I go and researching patterns along the way.

I got the hat done using Shifio’s Patterns CP 127, on Etsy. I’m also going to use this ruffle for the bottom of the cannoli bunting, and I’m waiting for the brown yarn I ordered to make the cannoli shell. I think it looks like the filling in a cannoli. I’m using Plymouth Encore. Can’t wait to see baby Tripp in it when he enters our crazy family!!!
Crochet pictures will follow. Current projects: Easer baskets for my grandkids. The bag that I talked about a few weeks ago. The cannoli bunting. AND check out Barbies Bad Day sweater pattern on Ravelry. Yup!! Started that this week too!
Happy Crafting!
